Brueghel the Younger was based in the Southern Netherlands and came from a family of artists. He specialized in depicting scenes from the everyday life of ordinary people, such as this painting of saints day celebrations. Each examination of the busy scene invites the viewer to discover a new detail, just as in life itself: villagers dancing, cooking, and making merry... with perhaps a little bit of overindulgence along the way.
